Babies Babies Babies

First it was weddings, now it's babies that we have on our mind.  You know that saying:  First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage!  Don't get too excited - none of the Glossy Flossy's are having a baby, but we know people who are having beautiful bundles of joy.

I remember the early days of bringing home a baby to lots of tears and confusion.  That was me, not the baby.  What most mommys don't realize till they're home alone is you are no longer in control of your days or nights.  Everything revolves around something about the size of a football that can't articulate their needs or wants without wailing them out.

I think every Mom and baby need an "Oasis of Calm and Peace" for those moments when you're so tired you can't see or think straight - both you and the baby.

This first nursery is a breath of fresh air.  I feel calm, peaceful and happy just looking at it.

This nursery is very sophisticated, anything with a zebra print and hot air balloon is okay with me.

Love the Tiffany blue walls of this nursery.  I feel calm and cherished just looking at this picture.

This nursery is so cute in tan.  You could use any accent color to change this up.

That should get you started on some baby zen nurseries.

Celebrate Celebrate Celebrate > A Mommy Shower

Recently my good friend had the most adorable baby and gave her an equally adorable name to match: Cora Jean. My friend is an amazing mama to two other little girls, crafter extraordinaire, and a country girl at heart. In a nutshell, she's just an awesome chick!

After she had her little cupcake, my friends and I wanted to do something fun just for her, since she had just made the cutest baby and she lets the rest of us fight over who gets to snuggle and love said baby. Seriously, is there anything better than holding a sleeping baby that smells like love and rainbows?! (Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a tiny bit with the rainbows and love thing; but in my crazy head that's what I think a squishy newborn baby smells like.)

Don't get me wrong, you all know how much we love a great baby shower around these parts; but sometimes it feels like a new baby gets all the attention and the poor, tired and sore, mama gets pushed aside like an ugly stepsister. I'm mean really, if you just created a tiny perfect human being, you deserve a little pampering. Or a cupcake, at the very least!

So we threw her a little party just for her, mainly to say thanks for having a sweet little baby that we can heap lots of love on and not have to feed, clothe, or pay for her college. And since our gal is a true country girl, (seriously, she has some great stories about plucking chickens and stuffing her family's pet goose for a high school science credit...) we decorated her party with a little farm chick flare:

All of the gifts were strictly pampering mom gifts, with the exception of some extra packs of diapers because really, not having to spend money on diapers is a gift in itself. She can use all that extra money on Starbucks and pedicures! Well, I would anyway...

We used lots of old funky mason jars and hung some fantastic Target dollar zone tea lights with some nubby twine. We also used small mason jars for our drink cups and then took some fun cupcake liners (from Target again) and used them as the lids:

Then of course was the food. No mommy shower is complete without yummy foods!

Thanks Mystie, for having the most beautiful baby girl so that my own ovaries didn't have to!

P.S. My husband thanks you too.

Dress This Mess > Baby Nursery Wall Decor

Happy Hallooooweeeen Everyone - Yup, today is the day your kids have been waiting for.  That's all they'll be thinking of is candy, candy, candy.  Here at the Glossy Flossy's we have our eye on Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas - that's right I'm a cyclops, but just for today cause it's Halloween.
While keeping my eye on those three things I'm helping another Mrs. Glossy Flossy with a baby shower she is showering a friend with.  Yes, you heard me, there is another Mrs. Glossy Flossy who is talented and looooves to entertain, and yes it apparently is the year for babies.
Remember the shower the future Mrs. 2Wicked gave for her sister and I said I would show you the wall decor that we made for the nursery - well here it is.

The inspiration for these silhouettes was the fabric that I spoke of before that I don't have a pic of and again it is 6am so no one is going to take a pic for me (I might get more organized at some point - but today is not the day.)  FM2W actually did all the work on these, I only provided technical support.
We picked out scrapbook paper that went with the nursery decor made by FM2W's momma, then found images of safari animals on the internet and sized them to fit the IKEA frames.  Printed silhouettes of animals out and FM2W traced it onto the scrapbook paper and cut them out.  The ostrich is actually scanned from the fabric used in the nursery.  A large frame with a large silhouette makes quite the impact. They turned out great and the possibilities are endless.  If your nursery theme is planes, trains, and automobiles you could use those silhouettes or how about cowboys, horses and steers.  For girls how about ballerinas and ...., I've got nothing else.  I don't have any girl grandbabies and I can't think of anything except boy stuff.

Note:  Photographing frames with glass is tricky and beyond our capabilities so we had to have FM2W's momma photograph them (she also photographed the shower.)  A big thanks goes out to her.  My suggestion is to photograph without the glass in the frame.

Celebrate Celebrate Celebrate > Circus Baby Shower

The future Mrs. 2Wicked has thrown a baby shower for her sister!  Of course we at the Glossy Flossy's had to stick our nose into her business because....  that's what we do!  The inspiration for this party was an animal print fabric that was used in the nursery.  (I would show you a picture but it is 6 in the morning and I don't have one and I'm pretty sure anyone I called to take a picture and send it to me would be irritated with me.)  FM2W picked this cute invitation and we were off to the land of elephants, circus tents and all things circus.  Okay, I admit it FM2W was only off to make one "It's a Boy" banner, but I was off to the other land.

First up was my other love (ruffled crepe paper is my first love) - accordion pleated paper made into medallions, or fans or rosettes or whatever you want to call them.  I have a serious crush on them.  I also really like them when someone else is folding and pleating the paper.

We made this cute "It's A Boy" banner with elephants and circus tents.  The color is a little off because I took this pic and I'm obviously not a professional photographer or even a very good amateur photographer.
FM2W was happy and finished but..... I wasn't finished.  Some say it's a sickness or as I heard someone say, "You just can't stop, can you?"  I made mini banners, treat bags, silverware/napkin wrappers that say "BABY", cake stand and Circus entry sign (check out the eeny meeny mini rosettes on the corners of the sign.)  FM2W caught a little of the illness and made the little onesies for guests to leave a message, "Ready to POP" sign for the caramel corn and dug out her hat and gloves as props from when she was the Ringmaster.   Maybe we couldn't stop but look how cute everything turned out.
The food was a delicious.  We mixed up the menu with a Watermelon Feta Salad, Chicken Artichoke Pesto Bundles, Galuptsi (mini cabbage rolls) , Caramel Corn, Mini Cupcakes, Cotton Candy, Cheese Platter, Brownies, Mint Lemonade, and for the favors we had mini bags of frosted animal crackers. Yum!

Next week we will be showing you the animal silhouettes that FM2W and I made for the nursery.
